New York : Little Falls : Moss Island
Moss Island RoutesThomann Gunks Apps 2022Moss Island is in the Mohawk River at Little Falls. It is home to a line of low cliffs, composed of granitic gneiss (the same rock as much of the Adirondacks) severely metamorphosed by intense heat and pressure. The rock has good friction, the cliffs are easy to get to, and the climbing is free. Hence the popularity. Most climbing is top-roping and there are anchors (bolts with carabiners) at the top of many of the routes. You can hike to the top or lead many climbs with trad gear. This guide documents 81 routes from 5.1 to 5.12c, and includes photos, GPS navigation, and maps. |
