Armenia Rock Climbing

Armenia is a small landlocked country in the southern Caucasus Mountains. Beyond its numerous high peaks--Mt. Aragats the tallest at 4095m and over 100 others above 3000m--its limestone provides many sport, trad, multi-pitch, and bouldering possibilities for the adventurous spirit.

The most stunning formation is Armenia’s hexagonal basalt columns. Many basalt formations are fragile, national monuments, most of the formations are currently closed to climbing.

All areas are easily accessible by car and within a couple hours from the capital, Yerevan,— refreshingly safe, easy-going place, which welcomes tourists. Despite the fact that the rugged landscape seems made for climbing, it is relatively untapped. The small climbing community, however, is vibrant and growing.

Climbing is possible all year round! Springtime is the rainy season. Autumn and May-June are great times to climb. Comfortably climbing in July and August is difficult as temps push triple digits. It is possible to climb in the winter (especially at the crags in Yerevan) if it's warm/sunny enough!
