Description Suggest change

Nice moderate ice routes on the base of Pioneer Peak. These climbs have short approaches and are a good place to take a new climber, or to snag your first ice leads.

There are three main climbs. Pilsner Pillar (WI4-5) Henry's Climb (WI2/3) and Blitz (WI3). Henry's can support a few parties.

Getting There Suggest change

From Anchorage, drive to the Old Glen Hwy turn off, just before it turns to go over the bridge. Take the Old Glen towards the Old Knik River Bridge, look for a pull off on the right side of the road about one mile before the bridge. This pullout can hold 4 or 5 cars.

Walk down the road look for a path the leads up a small drainage. Henry's and Blitz are at the head of this drainage.

there is some very moderate climbing to good belay ledges that allow you to lower with a single 70m rope from fixed anchors. Some webbing is located near these that facilitates a rap back down the easy climbing.
