Description
The largest concentrated area of climbing located in the backwoods of Arkansas.
The Cowell/Deer area has a good portion of classic boulders for the state, as well as moderate and hard sport crags.
The area is slowly becoming more and more popular, and offers climbing for just about every grade range. There is something for everyone here. An abundance of National Forestry offers ease of accessibility and camping year round.
A destination for the climber passing by indefinitely!
The Invasion Wall
The classic hardman wall with multiple classics all on an aggressively overhanging wall that features very powerful boulder problems on most routes.
Hudson Mountain
Perhaps the most popular sport climbing crag in the Cowell area, hosts climbs at just about every grade to 5.13 with moderates that rival those found in HCR.
Fred's Cave/Font Red
The premiere bouldering area for the state other than HCR. The quality lines out here showcase a variety of grades whether your pulling hard in Freds Cave, or slapping your way up the famous "Le'beak"
Getting There
Look for a house with a large assortment of junk and Christmas lights off of the road to indicate the country rd.
Deer: From Jasper take Highway 7 until you reach the fork for Highway 16. Veer right onto Hwy 16 and roll into the sleepy town of Deer. The local gas station is your last resort for supplies before heading into the woods
