Description
Exit 32 / Little Si is a primarily sport climbing area just out of the town of North Bend, on and around the small peak Little Si (just below Mount Si.) Most of the crags are scattered around on the northeast side of the peak along the Little Si trail, a very popular easy hike. The rock is volcanic metamorphics, like much of the North Bend stone, and varies between the extremely grippy, rough, textured variety (Blackstone Wall) to the bullet, slippery, sharp stuff (World Wall) - all while being mostly choss-free. While all the crags have a mix of well-traveled cliffs, World Wall is the highlight - possibly Washington's best high-level sport crag. It has over 60 sport routes (many linkups) from short to long on a gently overhanging wall, from 5.9 up to 5.14d.
These areas are all very popular with Seattle area climbers as it's only 40 minutes away from downtown with a 1 mile approach. The lowland nature of Little Si allows many crags to get sun or shade, and some to stay dry in the rain. The land is managed carefully as the nearby Mount Si is Washington's most popular hike and the areas are high use, so as of now no route development is allowed except for the areas that already exist.
Getting There
From the west side, take I-90 east to North Bend. Exit on the second North Bend exit (exit 32), go left over I-90 to the roundabout at North Bend Way, go left, and then right on the Mt. Si road. Shortly after crossing over the river, look for parking lots on the left for the Little Si trailhead. There is very limited parking, one lot directly at the base of the trail and another overflow lot a bit down the road. Once those lots are full, many people park along the trail (Snoqualmie Valley Trail) that runs parallel roughly parallel to the river (on the west side). A mellow 25 minute hike takes you to the routes.
