Getting There
There are a variety of climbing opportunities in this area. Please see the individual area pages for more info on getting there.
Resources
Silver Spruce Motel located at 162 W 6th Street, Glenwood Springs, CO. Phone 970-945-5458.
It's an older place, but decent rooms with refrigerators and microwaves. Considerably less expensive than the Glenwood Hot Springs Lodge.
Good deals can also be found from time to time staying at the Hotel Colorado. It can be a fun place to stay with the SO.
Good local brews and pub food can be found at the Glenwood Canyon Brewing Co, at 402 7th Street, Glenwood Springs. Just look behind the train station and you will see the Hotel Denver, that's where it is located. It has good pub food and locally-brewed beer.
Good Italian restaurants include Florindo's Italian Cuisine, on 721 Grand Ave, and the Italian Underground at 715 Grand Ave. Florindo's is more expensive (great food) than the Underground but nice for a special night out. They're almost right next door to each other, so if one is busy you can try the other.
Another good restaurant is Sapphire Grille, at 710 Grand Ave. It's upstairs, across the street from Italian Underground and Florindo's. So hopefully you get the message. Ditch the car and go and walk along Grand Ave and you'll find something worthwhile.
Climbing Gear: Glenwood has a really neat climbing/outdoor shop on Grand Ave. Summit Canyon Mountaineering They also have a local beta page on their site with more recommendations of places to eat etc.
Bats - conservation
See a bat on a route, give a shout. Climbers for Bat Conservation is working with climbers to understand bat ecology and why bats choose certain cracks and flakes. If you see bats, and want to tell them, here is their email (climbersforbats@colostate.edu) and their website ( climbersforbats.colostate.edu/).
Climbers for Bat Conservation is a collaboration between climbers, bat biologists, and land managers to understand where bats roost and where large populations may reside. They are interested in finding bats because a new disease, called white-nose syndrome ( whitenosesyndrome.org/), has killed millions of bats in North America. This collaboration has identified bat roosts throughout the U.S., and as far away as Norway and Bulgaria. CBC was developed by biologists who climb and they are advocates for climbing access and bat conservation. If you see bats while climbing, please let them know by emailing them at climbersforbats@colostate.edu, or visiting their website to learn more ( climbersforbats.colostate.edu/).
