[Hide Comment] Does anybody know the name of this problem? and climber? I think her name is Angie. It was taken about 7 years ago at Bouldergrass. I was wanting to use this picture for something, and I don't have contact info to get permission to use her image.

[Hide Comment] How is the AT&T cell service at the camping area here at HP40?

Random question I know, but I'm currently supporting a life on the road by working remotely, and have been using my AT&T cell phone as a hotspot in order to get connected to the internet.

So, I am generally limited to climbing areas that also have decent cell service...

Could anyone by any chance post some speed test results for the camping area?

Thanks in advance to anyone who might be able to help! Dec 6, 2015

[Hide Comment] Unscientifically, I get "full coverage", I.E. full-bars, most everywhere on Chandler Mountain with AT&T. No help on speed tests.

Edited to add, based on the update below, that I drive from the front side to the rear side of Chandler Mountain everyday. Only until I am on the far side, headed down the hill into the valley, do I drop coverage. I wouldn't say AT&T is "horrible"... Certainly pulls enough for phone, Pandora, and email...same if I head up the mountain and towards the lake.

Sorry you had a bad data experience, Tim T. Dec 7, 2015

[Hide Comment] Thanks Ben, that data is better than nothing!

I think I'll give it a shot... and maybe post some speed test results once I get there for anyone who might be interested in the future. Dec 7, 2015

[Hide Comment] AT&T coverage update:

Cell service at HP40 for AT&T is horrible....

Unless you are standing on The Overlook, there is no way you are getting "full coverage" through AT&T, especially at any of the camping areas.

Any nearby AT&T cell tower is located off the mountain(plateau), which causes any real signal to be blocked as soon as you move away from the edge of the cliffs.

Don't expect data speeds to exceed 2mbps, and you will be lucky if you get that...

On the other hand, there is a Verizon tower on top of the mountain, so Verizon service is amazing.

My initial Verizon DL speed was over 45mbps, one of the highest I have ever seen...

tldr; AT&T is horrible here, Verizon is awesome. Dec 14, 2015

[Hide Comment] Is there anywhere local to rent crash pads? Thinking of taking a trip out here and would rather not drag pads out from the Northeast. Dec 6, 2017

[Hide Comment] Is this upcoming week a good time to boulder here? High temps are in the 80’s and lows get into the low 50’s. Need help thanks
Yes, go! Mornings and evenings. Humidity is the biggest problem anywhere in the southeast. Sandstone does sweat so be mindful of that. When wet, sandstone will break. Have fun, tell the Schultz family I said hello. I started bouldering there over 20 years ago. My fav. Oct 20, 2020
[Hide Comment] How bad is it to come here in June? I have a work conference in the area at that time and am wondering if I'd be able to get any bouldering in, or if it'll be too hot/humid all the time. Thanks! Jan 23, 2023
[Hide Comment] will be in the area from june to august. can you climb at night to beat the heat? May 31, 2024
[Hide Comment] Climbing at night here in the summer is certainly allowed and it will be (slightly) cooler, but just beware it will be very buggy. Jun 23, 2024
