Description Suggest change

The Hully Gully area sits on the south rim of South Cheyenne Canyon and is accessed from Old Stage Road.

Two pitches of ice climbing can be found here (when it comes in), as well as a handful of mixed/drytool climbs. The ice can easily be approached from above which is nice from a toproping standpoint but can be dangerous to those leading and climbing below. Many have voiced opinions that this area should be lead only; however, that would be difficult or impossible to enforce. Also, if no one is below you and there are no cars in the parking area, then this is a great place to lower in and get some laps. The ice typically starts forming on wet years in late November or early December. I personally don't like to toprope it if it's not thick enough to lead it. There is a bit of a danger of people running toprope laps on it before the ice is formed, and this could (in theory) delay its formation. Anyways, just try to be nice to others and responsible to the resource.

P.S. The topout of pitch two can be very icy and dangerous when covered in snow. DO NOT venture out to the edge unroped to take a look at conditions!

Getting There Suggest change

Drive West up Old Stage Road (just sw of the Broadmoor Hotel). Continue up 0.6 miles after the hairpin turn where the road turns to dirt, and park at a big pullout on the right. DO NOT park at the corner with the power line. Emergency vehicles will not be able to get past you.

Walk up the road (toward the west) 200 meters to the other side of the drainage, and drop down a trail that starts next to the powerline. You will descend down a steep ridge until you hit a tree with a sign pointing you left to access the base, or right to access the topout.
