Description
Mosquito Ledge is one of the best crag on the Seward Highway. The routes are long, the rock is great (for Alaska) and it is far enough away form the road to hear you climbing partner. As of 2014 the forest and moss was starting to take over but with a little more traffic and a good scrubbing she will come back to life in a hurry. Climbing Magazine #218 may have voted our humble highway the worst crag in America with a highlight on this crag but it goes to show they dont know shit.
Getting There
Drive 30.9 miles past the weight station to mile mark 83.8 and park on the side of the road. Cross to the railway tracks (if there are trains coming stay away form the rails or you will get called in to the Alaska Rail Road Co.) and follow them to a trail on the north end of the lake. Walk this some times overgrown trail to the base of the cliff. Dont forget your bug spray.
