Description Suggest change

A set of surprisingly high quality Potsdam Sandstone cliffs (for Northern NY). Cliff height between 30-60 feet. The middle portion of the cliff contains a series of massive roofs, some spanning over 30 feet. The rock quality on the roofs looks alright. There have been no recorded ascents (that we know of) on or anywhere near this rock, so first ascents abound. This place boasts quite a lot: a good selection of moderate to hard looking face climbs, jaw dropping roof systems, a good collection of bouldering opportunities, as well as some pretty nice cracks. There is a little of something for everyone here.

if you’re arms are too pumped to climb, check out the large and intricate cave systems that are well worth a visit on their own.

Getting There Suggest change

Approach is 5 minutes on a beautifully kept trail. Super easy. There is a pleasant access trail at the beginning of the cliffs that leads to the base. Taking a right at the bottom will led you to "The Lookout", and taking a left will lead you to "Cave of the Meadowood". Actual location will remain unknown until a discussion with landowners can be had. Access is currently being discussed with the landowners and we believe that it can be gained in the coming months.

NO TRESPASSING on Private Property!

Suggest change

There was a recent occurrence (10/28/2024) where climbers traveled off trail onto the adjacent private properties and were approached by the property owner. Trespassing on private property is not only illegal but also very unsafe during hunting season AND gives climbers a bad reputation in the area! This is exactly how we get access revoked. If you plan to visit this area you need to be aware of all the private property adjacent to the preserve. Apps like OnX, Cal Topo, or others can help with this. Boundary lines are fairly well marked and there is really no excuse to being on private property as nearly the entire cliff line at Redwood Hill is on public IRLC property. Please be respectful of this place and treat it as you would your own home. Climbing is a privilege, not a right, on these managed lands.

P.S. If you were the climbers that were reprimanded I would like to hear your side of the story and know what exactly happened as I am currently in talks with the IRLC to create a climbing management plan. This may end up being a catalyst for very positive change! Feel free to PM me.
