Description
Located in northern Tucson, this recreational area charges a fee to park and another to ride the shuttle. The Acropolis, Whipple Wall and Kor Wall are @ 500' tall walls of gneiss. This is a trad area, not a sport climb to be found. The routes can be fairly adventurous and often require some choss bungling, but high quality lines do exist. Climbing is allowed but not celebrated or common, so don't be surprised if you attract attention from the tourists....Power bolting is prohibited in Sabino Canyon as the Wilderness begins close to the road on the West side and at approximately the Phoneline trail on the East side. While in the Pusch Ridge Wilderness, the area is generally, not subject to the annual sheep closure Jan-Apr.
Getting There
From center of town, head north on Swan to Skyline Drive and take that road east to Sabino Canyon Rd. Pay the fee ($8) and ride the tram or your bike (bikes prohibited 9am-5pm and all day on Wednesdays and Saturdays).
