Description

The San Jacinto Mountains are found nestled just south of Interstate 10, near the town of Palm Springs. Although these mountains have been known for many years to climbers due to its most popular destination, Tahquitz and Suicide (which are found elsewhere on this site), a variety of other areas are becoming discovered and frequented as gems in their own right.

The rock here is granite, with the friction ranging from smooth-nice-for-your-hands feel to grittier-tear-your-skin-apart quality.

Since the San Jacinto Mountains are mostly at 6000' or higher (Mt Jacinto itself is 10,670 feet), this area is mostly a Spring through Fall destination.

Some notable areas are Black Mountain and The Tramway bouldering stomping grounds.

Getting There

Most climbing areas can be accessed using Interstate 10 and Highway 243.
